eBrigade WhatsApp module

Open WhatsApp in one click from eBrigade

The module adds three uses of WhatsApp to eBrigade: a direct link to a member, built from the number on their record; group sending from the Message screen, with your text already written for each recipient; and an invitation link to the WhatsApp group of a section or activity, based on the group ID entered. Everything opens directly in the WhatsApp app, with no copying and pasting.

In short

What is eBrigade’s WhatsApp module?

Direct WhatsApp links to a member, pre-filled group sending from the Message screen and invitation links to section or activity groups, in one click from eBrigade. It is included at no extra cost in every eBrigade plan.

The problem

Why use the WhatsApp module?

Some of your field teams use WhatsApp as their main channel and don’t check the eBrigade app regularly. To reach them, you have to juggle between the management tool and WhatsApp: finding the right number, retyping it with the right international dialling code, or fetching the group’s invitation link from somewhere else. This manual back-and-forth wastes time and causes errors.

What changes

What the WhatsApp module changes in eBrigade

From a member’s record, a link opens a direct WhatsApp conversation with their number, automatically normalised with the right international dialling code. From an activity or a section, a link opens the corresponding WhatsApp group based on the invitation ID entered. From the Message screen, the WhatsApp button prepares a group send: one link per recipient, with your text already written. Whether all these links are displayed is controlled by a native on/off switch.

Features

What you can do with WhatsApp

Direct link to a member

From a member’s record, a WhatsApp link opens a one-to-one conversation with their number, handy for reaching a specific team member without looking up their number.

Group link by section and by activity

Each section and each activity can be associated with a WhatsApp group by entering its invitation ID. eBrigade then displays the group’s chat.whatsapp.com link, ready to open.

International number normalisation

Numbers are cleaned up and prefixed with the right dialling code (priority to the country code on the record, then the country of residence, then the global prefix, then the instance’s default country), with conversion of alpha-2 codes and removal of the redundant local leading 0.

Direct link always up to date

Because the direct link to a member is built from the number on their record, any change to the number is automatically reflected the next time it is used, with no re-entry.

One-click access from records and sending

Direct and group links are available directly on the member, section or activity record. In the Message screen, the WhatsApp button prepares one link per recipient with your text already written, with no intermediate step.

No app or sync required

The module does not import your contacts into WhatsApp and needs no intermediate app: it relies on WhatsApp’s official universal links (wa.me for contacts, chat.whatsapp.com for groups).

How it works

Step by step

1
Enable the WhatsApp module

A native on/off switch controls the display of every WhatsApp element in the product: direct link to a member, activity group link and section group link. No intermediate app or contact sync is required.

2
Contact a member directly

From a member’s record, the WhatsApp link opens a direct conversation with their number. The number is cleaned up and prefixed with the right international dialling code based on the record’s data.

3
Enter the group IDs

For each section and each activity, you enter the ID (or URL) of the WhatsApp group invitation. eBrigade rebuilds the corresponding chat.whatsapp.com link and displays it directly in the interface.

4
Open the right channel in one click

Direct and group links are available from the relevant records. From the Message screen, the WhatsApp button lists the reachable recipients with a link for each, your text already written, and opens them one after another if you wish. One click opens the native WhatsApp app on mobile, with no retyping or copying and pasting.

Use cases

Where this module really pays off

Fire and rescue services (SDIS) & volunteer firefighters: direct link to a volunteer from their record, group sending with a pre-filled message, or opening the section’s WhatsApp group, in one click from eBrigade.

Volunteering & associations: a communication relay to members who prefer WhatsApp to email or push notifications.

Civil protection & outreach rounds: immediate access to the activity group or direct contact with a team member during an intervention, from the eBrigade interface.

Multi-country organisations: reliable WhatsApp contact thanks to automatic normalisation of numbers and international dialling codes.

Module FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do WhatsApp phone numbers have to be entered by hand?

No. The module uses the numbers already stored in eBrigade’s staff records, with international dialling codes handled. Links are built automatically from this data.

Can a WhatsApp group be associated with a section or an activity?

Yes. A WhatsApp group ID can be entered for each section and each activity. The invitation link is then displayed directly in the interface, with no need to look it up or copy it.

Does this module replace eBrigade’s internal messaging?

No, it complements it. WhatsApp remains an external channel with no traceability in eBrigade. For communications that need to be archived, tracked or confirmed, internal messaging and the Read receipt module remain the right tools.
