eBrigade Geolocation module
Know where your teams are, and since when
Geolocation records each member’s last known position, reported by the eBrigade mobile app or by browser geolocation. Each position is shown with the time elapsed since the last signal (“located 5 min ago”, “2 h”, “3 months”), and feeds the map in the Mapping module so you can locate your resources without calling each team member.
These buttons are about this optional module: add-on pricing and a 1-month trial of the module.
GPS position of your members sent by the mobile app or the browser, showing the last known position and the time since the last signal (“5 min ago”).
What is the eBrigade Geolocation module?
Your members’ GPS position reported by the mobile app or the browser, showing the last known position and the time elapsed since the last signal (“5 min ago”). It is available as an option so that each organisation can enable it as needed.
Why use geolocation?
Away from the station, you don’t know where your teams are or how long it has been since they last sent a signal. In the event of an incident or a redeployment, with no known position you have to call each team member individually to piece the situation together.
What geolocation changes in eBrigade
The module records each member’s last known position, via the mobile app or browser geolocation depending on what the administrator allows. Each position is shown with the time elapsed since the last signal (“5 min ago”, “2 h”, “3 months”), and appears on the map in the Mapping module. Managers have a clear reference for everyone’s last location without having to contact field teams.
What you can do with Geolocation
Positions can be reported by the eBrigade mobile app or by browser geolocation. No third-party equipment is needed: a smartphone or browser is enough.
A “Geolocation” tab in the settings lets you turn browser geolocation on or off with a dedicated switch. The setting applies to the whole installation.
For each member, eBrigade keeps their last GPS position (latitude, longitude and date). This last known location is what is shown to managers.
Each position is shown in a readable form: “located 5 min ago”, “2 h” or “3 months”. You know immediately whether the information is recent or the signal is old.
Positions reported by geolocation are shown on the map in the Mapping module, placing members alongside the other mapped resources.
With the time clock, the position can be requested at each clock-in, as optional or mandatory, and clocking in can be restricted to a zone around the organisation’s address (global radius or per organisation). Outside the zone: warn, flag the clock-in or refuse it.
The browser asks each person for permission, and each member can turn off their geolocation in their preferences: their position then disappears from the map.
Step by step
From the “Geolocation” tab in the settings, the administrator enables browser geolocation in addition to reporting via the mobile app. This setting applies to the whole installation.
When a member uses the mobile app or the browser with permission to access their location, eBrigade records their last GPS position with its timestamp. Everyone can turn off their geolocation at any time in their preferences.
For each member, eBrigade keeps the last recorded position and shows the time elapsed since that signal (“located 5 min ago”, “2 h”, “3 months”). The positions feed the map in the Mapping module.
Where this module really pays off
Fire and rescue services (SDIS) & civil protection: last known position of members on duty or on an operation, shown on the map in the Mapping module.
Patient transport & SMUR (mobile emergency medical units): locate field teams’ last position from the eBrigade interface, with no phone call.
Construction & field maintenance: locate technicians on a job from their last GPS signal, via mobile or browser.
Associations & events: know the last position of deployed volunteers and how old that information is.
Frequently asked questions
Do members need to turn anything on to be located?
Geolocation relies on the eBrigade mobile app or on browser geolocation. The member must use one or the other and have allowed access to their location. The administrator chooses in the settings whether browser geolocation is enabled for the installation.
Is tracking done in real time?
No. eBrigade keeps each member’s last known position, not a continuous stream. Each position is shown with the time elapsed since the last signal (“5 min ago”, “2 h”, “3 months”), which tells you at once whether the information is recent or old.
How do you choose between the mobile app and the browser?
From the “Geolocation” tab in the module’s settings, a switch lets you enable browser geolocation. This is a single setting for the whole installation and complements reporting via the mobile app.
Is this module connected to Mapping?
Yes. Positions reported by Geolocation are shown on the map in the Mapping module. The two modules complement each other and are designed to work together.
Is geolocation also used for the time clock?
Yes. With the time clock enabled, the administrator chooses whether the position is requested at clock-in (off, optional or mandatory) and can restrict clocking in to a zone around the organisation’s address, with a global radius or one specific to each organisation. Outside the zone, the clock-in is, as you choose, accepted with a warning, flagged in the timesheet, or refused.
Can a member refuse to be located?
Yes. Everyone can turn off their geolocation in their preferences or from the location icon: their position then no longer appears on the map.
