In short

What is the eBrigade Distinctions module?

Medals and distinctions from a preconfigured catalogue (national orders, military medals, long service) organised into your categories: award them to people or sections with the date of presentation, badges visible on the record and in the staff list, and a list of those eligible based on length of service. It is available as an option so that each organisation can enable it as needed.

The problem

Why use Distinctions?

A person’s medals often live in a spreadsheet kept by one person, in archived letters or in the memory of long-standing members. When preparing a promotion or a ceremony, you have to piece together who already has what, since when, and who has reached the length of service required for the next level: hours of searching, and the risk of forgetting someone.

What changes

What Distinctions changes in eBrigade

You start from a catalogue that is already configured, organised into your categories, each medal with its badge. An awarded distinction is added to the person’s record with its date of presentation and the name of whoever awarded it, and their badges follow their name everywhere: at the top of the record, in the staff list, among the people signed up for an activity. For long-service medals, the list of those eligible is calculated automatically.

Features

What you can do with Distinctions

Preconfigured catalogue

National orders, military and commemorative medals, long-service medals and internal distinctions are already created on activation, badges included. You add your own medals instead of entering everything.

Your medal categories

Medals of honour, national orders, internal awards: you create, rename and delete categories, and both the catalogue and the selection lists are organised by them.

A badge for each medal

Each distinction has its own image, uploaded and cropped on screen, and its target: staff, section or both. The name is shown when hovering over the badge.

A Distinctions tab on every record

The person’s medals, with who awarded them and the date of presentation, which can be edited. The “Distinction” button adds several at once.

Visible in the staff list

Badges follow the name: at the top of the record, in the staff list, among the people signed up for an activity and on distinguished sections.

Eligibility by length of service

Link a medal to the date of joining or to a record field with a minimum duration: the “Eligible” filter produces the list of people concerned, and you award it with a switch.

How it works

Step by step

1
Start from the catalogue provided

On activation, the module settings already contain the national orders, military and commemorative medals, long-service medals and a few internal distinctions, each with its badge. Keep, rename or delete them.

2
Adjust categories and medals

Create your categories, then add your medals: badge uploaded and cropped on screen, name, category, target (staff, section or both) and, for long service, the link to the date of joining or to a record field with its minimum duration.

3
Award

From the record, the “Distinction” button adds one or more medals with their date of presentation. From Staff › Distinctions, choose a medal, tick “Eligible” and award it to several people with one switch per row.

4
Find them everywhere

Each record lists its distinctions with the person who awarded them and the date of presentation. Badges are also shown next to the name, in the staff list and among the people signed up for an activity.

Use cases

Where this module really pays off

Fire and rescue services (SDIS) & firefighters: medals of honour and long-service levels tracked member by member, with the list of those eligible ready before each promotion.

Civil protection associations: internal security or voluntary commitment medals organised into their categories and visible on each volunteer’s record.

Associations & volunteering: internal awards (loyalty, commitment, years of service) awarded to volunteers or to an entire section.

Preparing a ceremony: filter staff by section and by medal to see who has already received it and who still needs to be put forward.

Supervising an activity: the badges of the people signed up appear in the list, without opening each record.

Module FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do we have to enter every medal by hand?

No. The module comes with a catalogue that is already configured, badges included: national orders (Légion d’honneur, Ordre national du Mérite, Palmes académiques, Arts et Lettres, Mérite agricole and Mérite maritime), military and commemorative medals, long-service medals (5, 10 and 20 years of service) and a few internal distinctions. You keep what you need, rename, change a badge and add your own medals.

Can we create our own medal categories?

Yes. Categories are created, renamed and deleted from the module settings: medals of honour, national orders, internal awards, long service… The catalogue is then viewed by category, and the selection lists used when awarding a medal are organised the same way.

Where can a person’s distinctions be seen?

In the Distinctions tab of their record, with the badge, the person who awarded it and the date of presentation. Their badges also appear next to their name, at the top of the record and in the staff list, as well as in the list of people signed up for an activity; the medal’s name appears on hover.

Can a section be distinguished, not just a person?

Yes. Each distinction has a target: staff, section, or both. A distinguished section displays its badges on its record and in the list of sections, just like a person.

How do we identify the people eligible for a long-service medal?

A distinction can be linked to the date of joining or to a custom record field, with a minimum duration in months or years. From Staff › Distinctions, you choose the medal, tick “Eligible” and get the list of people who meet the criterion, which can be filtered by section. A switch on each row is then all it takes to award it.

Who can manage distinctions?

Four separate permissions: view, add, edit and delete distinctions. You grant them according to the roles in your organisation, for example viewing for everyone and awarding reserved for the honours office or the board.
