Structure your rank hierarchy according to your own rules

In short

What is the eBrigade Rank module?

A 100% configurable rank reference list: create your ranks with a name and icon, group them into categories, order the hierarchy by drag and drop and track the number of active members per rank in real time. It is included at no extra cost in every eBrigade plan.

The problem

Why structure your ranks?

Without a centralised rank reference list, every list, every export and every record shows different titles for the same role, and the hierarchical order gets lost in Excel spreadsheets that nobody keeps up to date. You cannot quickly answer what should be a simple question: how many active corporals, how many team leaders? Obsolete ranks linger in the lists and distort your staffing reports.

What changes

What Rank changes in eBrigade

The administrator builds the rank reference list — a name, an icon and a category for each — and sets the hierarchical order by drag and drop. Ranks are grouped into categories (officers, non-commissioned officers, firefighters…) that can be renamed or merged without losing any rank. Each rank shows its number of active members live, one click opens the list of the people concerned, and retired ranks are deactivated rather than deleted to preserve your data.

Features

What you can do with Rank

A completely open rank reference list

Create all the ranks specific to your organisation — firefighters, civil protection, private security, associations — with no imposed list. Each rank has a name and an internal code generated for you.

Categories that can be grouped and merged

Sort your ranks into categories (officers, non-commissioned officers, firefighters…). Rename a category or delete it: its ranks are automatically reassigned to another, so no rank is ever left orphaned.

Drag-and-drop hierarchical order

Set the position of each rank by dragging it in the list. The level is saved immediately and drives the sorting of ranks wherever they are displayed.

A visual icon for each rank

Associate an image (PNG/JPG, 48×48 px) with each rank to spot it at a glance in lists and records, or keep the default icon.

Real-time count of active members

Each rank shows the number of active members assigned to it. One click on the counter opens the named list — ideal for your staffing reports and reports to the supervisory authority.

Activation, filters and counters

Deactivate a rank instead of deleting it to preserve the history, then filter the grid by category or by status (all / active / inactive) with live-updated counters.

How it works

Step by step

1
Build your rank categories

Create your categories (officers, non-commissioned officers, firefighters…) to structure the grid. A category can be renamed or deleted at any time — its ranks are then automatically attached to another category, with nothing lost.

2
Create your ranks and their icons

Add each rank with its name and, if you wish, an icon (PNG/JPG, 48×48 px) for immediate visual identification in lists. The internal code is generated automatically, so there is nothing technical to enter.

3
Order the hierarchy by drag and drop

Rearrange ranks with the mouse: the hierarchical order is saved instantly and is then used to sort lists and displays throughout the application.

4
Manage your staffing in real time

The number of active members is shown next to each rank. Filter by category or by status (all / active / inactive), and click a counter to open the named list of the people concerned.

Use cases

Where this module really pays off

Fire and rescue services (SDIS) and firefighters: a configurable rank grid (corporals, sergeants, lieutenants…) with an icon per rank, drag-and-drop hierarchical order and a count of active members.

Approved associations and civil protection: an internal structure (Team leader, Section leader, Manager) grouped into categories that can be renamed or merged at any time.

Private security and in-house services: fully customisable in-house ranks, sorted by hierarchical level, with activation/deactivation to evolve the grid without losing anything.

Training centres and federations: levels and roles configurable to match your own frameworks, filterable by category and sorted automatically according to the defined position.

Multi-department HR teams: instant tracking of the number of active members per rank for staffing reports and reports to the supervisory authority, with direct access to the named list.

Module FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can you create custom ranks, or does the module impose a predefined structure?

Ranks are completely open: you define the name of each rank, its icon, its category and its hierarchical position yourself. The organisation creates its own structure, whether it comes from the firefighter, associative, civil protection or private security world. No list is imposed, and the rank’s internal code is generated automatically.

How does the hierarchical order of ranks work?

You order ranks with a simple drag and drop in the list. The hierarchical level is saved immediately and is then used to sort ranks automatically in displays. You can adjust the grid at any time with no re-entry.

What happens to ranks when I delete or rename a category?

A category can be renamed or deleted freely. On deletion, the attached ranks are automatically reassigned to another category: no rank is lost or left without a category.

Can you see the number of members per rank?

Yes. Next to each rank, the module shows in real time the number of active members assigned to it (excluding external people). One click on this counter opens the named list of the people concerned directly, which makes staffing reports easier.

Should a rank that is no longer needed be deleted?

No, it is better to deactivate it. A deactivated rank disappears from everyday lists but is kept; you can filter the display by status (all / active / inactive) to find it and reactivate it if needed, without losing any data.

Does a member’s rank appear in the rest of eBrigade?

Yes. The rank defined here is the one assigned to members: it is therefore shown on their record and in the staff lists where they appear, with no re-entry or manual synchronisation. The reference list remains the single source for all your ranks.
