eBrigade QR Code module
Record every check with a scan of a badge or equipment
The module generates QR codes for members and for logistics (vehicles, equipment, uniforms, consumables, storage locations, rooms), printable on badges and label sheets. A scan from the mobile app opens the item with the actions chosen in the settings; consumables are also recognised by their EAN barcode.
These buttons are about the full eBrigade subscription: this module is included at no extra cost in every plan.
QR codes on member badges and on logistics labels (vehicles, equipment, consumables, storage locations, rooms), with the relevant actions on scan from the mobile app.
What is the eBrigade QR Code module?
QR codes on member badges and logistics labels (vehicles, equipment, consumables, storage locations, rooms), with useful actions on scanning from the mobile app. It is included at no extra cost in every eBrigade plan.
Why use QR codes?
In the field, finding the record of a member, a vehicle or an equipment kit means opening eBrigade and searching for the right reference. On return from a call-out, during an inventory or a check at the entrance to a deployment, this search is too slow and leads to data-entry errors.
What QR codes change in eBrigade
Every member, vehicle, piece of equipment, uniform, consumable, storage location or room can carry a QR code generated by eBrigade, and consumables are also recognised by their EAN barcode. A scan from the mobile app opens the item with the actions that are useful in the field. With the Donations module, campaigns also have their own QR code to print or share.
What you can do with QR Code
A member’s badge carries a QR code that opens their badge page: identity, status and the information you choose to display, with or without login depending on your setting.
Vehicles, equipment, uniforms, consumables, storage locations and rooms have their own QR code, printable individually or as label sheets from the lists.
Assign to an activity, allocate to a person, record a condition check or start an inventory: you choose, type by type, the buttons offered on scan, and each one respects the operator’s permissions.
The inventory scanner reads a consumable’s QR code as well as its standard EAN barcode and opens the matching record to view or update it.
Scanning a badge shows the person’s current or upcoming activities so you can record their entry with the Access control module, or sign them up to an activity.
With the Donations module, each campaign has its own QR code, linking to its online donation page, to print on materials or share.
Step by step
In the settings, switch on the staff QR code and the one for each type of logistics item, then choose the information shown on the badge page and the actions offered on scan.
The QR code appears on the member’s record and badge, and the logistics lists print label sheets ready to cut out.
From the mobile app, the operator scans a badge or a label: the item opens with the actions their permissions allow, from signing someone up to an activity to a vehicle condition check.
Where this module really pays off
Fire and rescue services (SDIS) & civil protection: a QR code stuck on each vehicle to record mileage or a condition check on return from a call-out, and assign it to an activity in one go.
Logistics & inventory: labels printed in sheets for equipment, kits and storage locations, and scanning of consumables’ EAN barcodes to update the stock.
Events & accreditation: scanning the badge at the entrance to the deployment to check that a person belongs to the organisation, sign them up to the activity or record their entry with Access control.
Fundraising: with the Donations module, a campaign QR code to print on materials or share, linking to the online donation page.
Frequently asked questions
What happens when you scan a badge’s QR code?
The scan opens the member’s badge page: their photo, name, status and the information you have chosen to display there. A logged-in person also finds their skills, a link to their record and, if you switch them on, sign-up to an activity and clocking in. Confidential fields never appear there.
Do you need to be logged in to read a badge?
It is up to you. With the Authentication required option, on by default for new instances, only a logged-in person authorised to view staff sees the badge page. Without it, anyone scanning the code sees it, which lets a third party check that a volunteer really belongs to your organisation. The badge code is signed with a secret specific to your instance: it cannot be guessed.
What can you do by scanning a vehicle or equipment?
Scanning a label opens the item on the phone with the actions you have chosen: view its record, assign it to an activity, allocate it to a person, record a condition check or start an inventory. Each action checks the permissions of the person scanning.
Can inventory consumables be scanned?
Yes. The inventory scanner reads a consumable’s EAN barcode as well as its QR code, and opens the record of the matching consumable type to view or update it.
Is QR code scanning linked to the Access control module?
Yes. Scanning a badge can be used with the Access control module to validate an on-site entry and link it to the current activity, when that module is switched on.
Is there a QR code for donation campaigns?
Yes. The Donations module generates a dedicated QR code for each campaign, linking to its online donation page. It can be printed on communication materials or shared online.
