The firefighter function undeniably combines the efficient and associative side. This really makes it possible to forge strong links and bring together all the firefighters in France. This takes into account cooperation, sports activities, etc. Both locally with the Amicales and nationally with the Federation. All this through the regional and departmental unions, a strong and essential point.

The firefighters’ unions, pillars of the associative chain

With the aim of organising and ensuring the smooth running of the JSP (young firefighters) sections, these 97 departmental unions, 4 overseas associations and 13 regional unions made up of firefighters are the basis of the associative chain.

All the rings of the federal network are still made up of elected firefighters, this symbiosis organizes the departmental relay of the Amicale. They are also made aware of and qualified in first aid training for the general public (by the National Federation of Firefighters of France). It is through these unions that our firefighters are among the most essential players in this sphere in France. Concerning the social sphere, the firefighter union is able to help the family who may encounter a case of death, or even an accident. This is therefore carried out in relay of the Amicales and national associations such as the Œuvre des Pupilles or the ANACAPP.

Not forgetting sports competitions, departmental and regional congresses, history and heritage protection, activities…

In addition to all these tasks shared with the local associations, the union guarantees the image of the fire brigade as well as the protection of their interests vis-à-vis the local public authorities and employment authorities. Concerning the organisation of tasks, the union is based on commissions such as the work, transmitted to the regional and then federal level, which will subsequently give rise to large-scale acts. Through the national channel, information will be able to be disseminated and dialogues between the brigades on French territory will be operational. It is very often that the presidents of the union as well as the associates gather at the fire station to discuss the good methods of all the departments. The Federation offers annual training on the many points of association management (accounting, taxation, general assembly, etc.).

The Amicales, at the centre of life in the fire stations

A rescue centre represents a friendly association. That is to say, 7,000 associations spread across the territory, near fire stations. The firefighters, elected by their colleagues, run multiple events on both sides: Fireland Festival, Triathlon, Telethon, National Firefighters’ Congress, Sainte Barbe, open days… but also the sections of JSP, competitions and sporting events, activities…

Initially, they have a community solidarity status within the firefighters’ circle in the event of a problem, which will then be more easily spotted by the associations.

It is possible for associations to contact the departmental union. This approach will make it possible to call on if necessary, the professional firefighters of the region, the department but also organizations such as the work of the wards or other…
